demonstrates a broad palette of imagery: startling beauty, inexplicable
joy, and overwhelming contrasts.
She saw startling beauty in the African people, especially the
children, as well as in the wild animals in their natural habitat.
Inexplicable joy burst forth in spontaneous a cappella singing and dancing
even while these young people struggled to overcome adversity. There were
overwhelming contrasts in the rich and the poor, in modern shopping malls
and country markets, and in the beauty of the land. This African
experience brought tears and laughter, sorrow and joy. Until February
