Calling The Northumberland Film Community.

The Park Playhouse has a new 14 by 24ft retractable screen.

Dallas Varcoe, the manager of the Park, is considering enlisting Cinephiles’ as a sort of rotating advisory board on the films or themes to explore, or directors, Cobourg residents might find interesting.

Most days available for cinema will play current releases, but she will be reserving special weeks through-out the year to explore themes, directors, actors, anniversaries.

On occasion, there would be a stool discussion on stage before the film with a moderator and guest or two discussing the film more profoundly and setting people in the right mind frame to view the picture or just teaching on it.

Dallas Varcoe would like to see to see a sense of community of aficionados and intelligent film-goers grow up around the Park.

Interested? please contact: Dallas Varcoe, Park Playhouse, Theatre Manager

The Arts Council of Northumberland has been working to assist performing arts groups co-ordinate their performance schedules in order to avoid conflicts. It’s a difficult task considering the limited number of venues available to us. We tried a long term calendar on the ACN website but that didn’t really work well. It was finally agreed that a simple meeting(s) of the organizations involved would be best way of achieving this goal. We invite you to join us at for a get-together to meet members of the other Northumberland arts groups and discuss schedule planning issues. This will also provide an opportunity for the ACN to share with you its new Strategic Plan.

Tuesday February 9, 7pm 0r Thursday February 18, 7pm

The ACN website now has a map of cultural attractions – galleries, theatres, museums - in Northumberland. It is a work in progress with the possibility of including studios, arts supplies stores and other ancillary businesses. Check it out HERE

Steel Magnolias, Produced by Garth Holloway and Doreen Page, Directed by Chris M. Worsnop DINNER THEATRE at The Best Western Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre, Cobourg, February 5, 6 (matinee and evening) and 7, 2010. The story introduces us to a gaggle of gossiping ladies in a 1980's Louisiana small-town beauty parlour. The characters are familiar and engaging; truly hilarious in their joking as they cut up their local society with their biting yet honest insights, all the while fussing with their hair. The play swings between slap-your-sides comedy and dab-your-eyes tender moments. The ending is deeply moving; a skillfully crafted and lovingly evoked picture of kookiness and sisterhood.

Mills, who is Chapel Organist at Trinity College School as well as Music Director at St Mark's Anglican Church, has used the programmes of one of his teachers, British recitalist Peter Hurford, as a guide for arranging the seventeen concerts.
Both the Hill, Norman and Beard organ at TCS, imported from England in 1965, and the 1986 Gabriel Kney (London, ON) tracker pipe organ at St Mark's are considered fine instruments for the interpretation of Bach's works. In particular, the Kney organ is based on small organs by Gottfried Silbermann, Bach's favourite builder, which Mills was able to study in Germany in 1992. Osmond’ photography demonstrates a broad palette of imagery: startling beauty, inexplicable joy, and overwhelming contrasts.  She saw startling beauty in the African people, especially the children, as well as in the wild animals in their natural habitat. Inexplicable joy burst forth in spontaneous a cappella singing and dancing even while these young people struggled to overcome adversity. There were overwhelming contrasts in the rich and the poor, in modern shopping malls and country markets, and in the beauty of the land. This African experience brought tears and laughter, sorrow and joy. Until February 28th..
