Northumberland Festivals & Events Organizers: The Ontario Ministry of Tourism has launched Celebrate Ontario with $11 million in funding to help enhance Ontario's festivals and events. Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation (Northumberland CFDC) has launched a “Cultural Sector Loan” for artists throughout Northumberland County. The Cultural Sector loan will give artists in all art forms the flexibility to invest in their studios, their work and their businesses. The loans are  available to provide start up capital as well as capital purchase and venture capital with flexible security, competitive interest rates and reasonable administration fees.They also create new opportunities for graduating students in the cultural sector to pursue careers and open studios and businesses in Northumberland County. 'Home Sweet Home' this year's holiday theme at Westben.  The Westben festival, teen and youth choirs will perform together in Christmas tradition at the upcoming 'Wind in the Willows.

Jeanette Bartosik at the Autumn Treasures Show this weekend, including Friday Night, at the Trentwinds Hotel on Landsdowne East in Peterborough -  a full array of hand-made art glass beaded jewellery including long-time favorites to match existing pieces and some newer styles to choose from. Colborne Art Gallery Annual Christmas Show opening, ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL. Saturday  November 14, from 12 - 4 pm. John English with special guest Robert Bothwell, Saturday, November 21st, 2 pm – Mary J. Benson Branch.  Yes, THAT John English, author of the two-volume definitive biography of Pierre Elliott Trudeau.  Volume One, Citizen of the World, followed Trudeau’s life from 1919 to 1968.  The newly published Volume Two, Just Watch Me (doesn’t that title make you smile?), covers 1968 to 2000.   John English was given unprecedented and exclusive access to Trudeau’s private letters and papers, perhaps to the chagrin of … someone.  (Her new autobiography comes out next year.)   Joining Mr. English will be Bob Bothwell, U of T Prof, whose no-holds barred approach to politics and political books promises to spark a spirited discussion.  Book sales and author signing courtesy of Furby House Books, refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Library following the reading.

 

Francis Gage - Unlikely Paradise: The Life of Frances Gage. Saturday, November 21, 2 pm;  Furby House Books, Port Hope Frances Gage, who lives in Cobourg, has created more than 500 works of art. This remarkable biography spans her associations with The Group of Seven and triumph over tragedy.

 

Cobourg and District Historical Society Tuesday, November 24th in the Citizens' Forum, Victoria Hall. The speaker will be Ciara Ward, archivist for the Society's Archives, presenting a programme entitled The Korean War, as They Remember It: Oral Histories from Cobourg's Veterans. Following a brief summary of the background to the war and Canada's involvement, Ms Ward will share the histories of four local Korean War veterans.

We have recently launched an Emerging Artist Residency Award which gives young emerging artists the chance to participate in an artist residency free of charge for up to one week. Along with this opportunity we have also started building a resource site for emerging artists called the Emerging Artist Guide. Collings also provides art consulting and art placement services. This can range from helping residential or corporate clients enhance an existing collection with in-situ colour, display and editing decisions, through to providing acquisitions advice and negotiating the purchase of specific works for collectors. Her goal is to fulfill the needs and sensibilities of the individual client, rather than to impose her own taste.

Ad Hoc studio exhibition at AGN Port Hope to November 22. The Art Gallery of Northumberland in Port Hope is pleased to present its latest exhibition of paintings by the adult students of the AD HOC studio. These talented artists produce vibrant and eclectic works under the mentorship of  Port Hope artist, Fiona Crangle. The exhibition runs until November 22 at the AGN’s Port Hope location, 60 Walton St. Port Hope. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday 11 to 5 and Sunday 1 to 4. Doris Scott's landscape and still life paintings are being shown right now until the end of the year at the Campbellford Public Library, 98 Bridge St. E. Painting in the traditional manner in a painterly, impressionistic style, her fresh, bright use of color enlivens the works and captures your attention.  The show is open during regular library hours.
