Northumberland Festivals & Events Organizers: The Ontario Ministry of Tourism has launched Celebrate Ontario with $11 million in funding to help enhance Ontario's festivals and events. Arts Headlines

Fifty-year love story unfolds on Cobourg stage. What letters say and what they leave unsaid is the foundation of a love story presented by the Victorian Operetta Society (VOS). 'Love Letters', by A.R. Gurney, chronicles the bittersweet relationship of staid and dutiful business lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and artist Melissa Gardner, played by seasoned actors Bob Clark and Betsey Stanley.

 

'Nunsense' makes fun of a habit in Port Hope .The Capitol Theatre is about to host the clergy - a country and western, singin' and dancin', clergy.In 'Nunsense 3: The Jamboree' (officially titled 'Sister Amnesia's Country Western Nunsense Jamboree'), Sister Amnesia and her peers, Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Leo, Father Virgil Manley Trott (Sister Mary Leo's Franciscan-priest brother and country radio show host), and Sister Mary Wilhelm are on tour promoting Sister Amnesia's first album.

Bacchus Beckons, On Friday, October 30, the Victoria Hall Volunteers will present their seventh biennial Wine Tasting Event.  Bacchus Beckons is a timely opportunity to discover new wines for your own holiday entertaining.  From 8:00 - 10:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall, guests will sample not only fine wines selected by local sommelier Bruce Maclean, but also an assortment of wonderful cheeses of the world. This evening of music and storytelling focuses on the stories of the more than 60,000 artisans around the world whose lives are helped by the Fair Trade practices of The Thousand Villages. The concert will feature local favourites David Bryson, Derrick Cunningham, Sarah Green, Beth Hunt, Angela Robinson Main and Shawn Winchester with Brad Halls on keyboard and direction by Marie Anderson and Valerie Russell. TurandotGiacomo Puccini,  November 7, 1:00 pm at the Capitol Port Hope.3 hours 21 minutes, 2 intermissions. Director Franco Zeffirelli’s breathtaking production of Puccini’s last opera is a favorite of the Met repertoire. Maria Guleghina plays the ruthless Chinese princess of the title, whose hatred of men is so strong that she has all suitors who can’t solve her riddles beheaded. Marcello Giordani sings Calāf, the unknown prince who eventually wins her love and whose solos include the famous “Nessun dorma”.

 

The Fab Four, Saturday November 7th, 8:00 pm at the Park Playhouse Cobourg.  $25, The Fab Four are an entertaining musical and historical re-enactment of the life of one of pop-rock music's most revered and influential bands.

The Henman brothers, David and Ritchie, got together with their cousin Jim Henman and fellow musician Myles Goodwyn to form a band called April Wine, a name chosen simply because they were two words that sounded good together. We have recently launched an Emerging Artist Residency Award which gives young emerging artists the chance to participate in an artist residency free of charge for up to one week. Ad Hoc studio exhibition at AGN Port Hope to November 22. The Art Gallery of Northumberland in Port Hope is pleased to present its latest exhibition of paintings by the adult students of the AD HOC studio. These talented artists produce vibrant and eclectic works under the mentorship of  Port Hope artist, Fiona Crangle. The exhibition runs until November 22 at the AGN’s Port Hope location, 60 Walton St. Port Hope. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday 11 to 5 and Sunday 1 to 4. Rui Pimenta - "Living Within the Means of Existence" (kinetic and light based paintings and sculptures), A.K.Collings Gallery, Port Hope. Rui Pimenta is an emerging artist who works with water-based fluid media (inks, latex and resin) on transparent surfaces. His multi-layered and three dimensional work defies categorization : it is both painting and sculpture.The exhibition consists of 6 of Pimenta's light boxes, and one large, singularly beautiful kinetic mobile, which occupies the entire back wall of the space. He has transformed this small gallery into a glittering jewel box: beautiful by day and spectacular by night.

Doris Scott's landscape and still life paintings are being shown right now until the end of the year at the Campbellford Public Library, 98 Bridge St. E. Painting in the traditional manner in a painterly, impressionistic style, her fresh, bright use of color enlivens the works and captures your attention.  The show is open during regular library hours.

Anneke Newman at the 100 Mile Diner in Warkworth from Thursday, November 5th until the end of the year. The show is entitled “A Dawdle Down Dutch Line” features oil paintings of local area landscapes, a favourite theme.

The Colborne Art Gallery group show with Christine Benson, Bill Rowland, & Janita Wiersma, and gallery artists. The show will be on through November 8th, 2009.

 

Kingsleys Korner: FALL SHOWING. Edith McPherson,a water colour artist residing in Brighton is noted for her delicate touch in capturing floras. The exhibit at Kingsleys Korner to October 31st features distinct and admired pieces of her art. Ms McPherson is very popular with the urban art enthusiasts and Brighton Arts Council is pleased to have her as a member. Most of the art is available for sale during the show. Susan Caron. through the month of October she  will be showing Water colours at the Buttermilk Cafe as well as continuing my showings and sales at Munro's After Five down town Cobourg. I have recently swapped out the art that is showing in Rick Norlock's office.

 

The Cobourg Art Club has a display of paintings upstairs at The Mill Restaurant, Cobourg --an eclectic mix of original work in all media and all members participate. The show is ongoing and changes seasonally.
