Warkworth author shares true story of love in Italy Sheila Wright's planned around-the-world adventure might have been cut short in Italy, but the adventures she in her new novel didn't end there.

 

First Stages Theatre presents 'Death in Venice'  A celebration of the spoken word takes centre stage at the Capitol Theatre on Oct. 18. The Capitol will host the one-man play, 'Death in Venice', written by Nobel Laureate Thomas Mann, and adapted by Robert David MacDonald, of the Citizen's Theatre, in Glasgow.

Rui Pimenta - "Living Within the Means of Existence" (kinetic and light based paintings and sculptures), Artists' Reception from 3:00 to 5:00 pm , Saturday October 17, A.K.Collings Gallery, Port Hope. Rui Pimenta is an emerging artist who works with water-based fluid media (inks, latex and resin) on transparent surfaces. His multi-layered and three dimensional work defies categorization : it is both painting and sculpture.The exhibition consists of 6 of Pimenta's light boxes, and one large, singularly beautiful kinetic mobile, which occupies the entire back wall of the space. He has transformed this small gallery into a glittering jewel box: beautiful by day and spectacular by night.

In September, ACN member Linda Hutsell-Manning’s short story, “Miss Purity Flour” was a finalist in Glimmer Train’s Very Short Fiction Contest. Co-editor, Linda Swanson-Davies said: “We know how demanding writing is, how rare the opportunities for public recognition, and how close to the heart most strong pieces are. We think that a tree filled with local, original artwork would raise a lot of money for this cause as well as bring attention to local artists and their work.

As a Member of the Spirit of the Hills, The Colborne Art Gallery is also submitting work from three of their artists.  Avril Bull-Jones (Watercolour), Barbara Buntin (Monotype and Collage), Alison Seale (Encaustic & Collage). 

 

Doris Scott's landscape and still life paintings are being shown right now until the end of the year at the Campbellford Public Library, 98 Bridge St. E. Painting in the traditional manner in a painterly, impressionistic style, her fresh, bright use of color enlivens the works and captures your attention.  The show is open during regular library hours.

 

San Murata October 3rd - October 16, at Scott’s Barn. Tues - Fri, 10:00 am to 4 :30 pm. Self-taught as an artist, San Murata has worked his way up to a position as one of the most respected illustrator designers in Canada. He has worked as an Art Director for CTV, Global and CityTV in Toronto.

The Colborne Art Gallery group show with Christine Benson, Bill Rowland, & Janita Wiersma, and gallery artists. The show will be on through November 8th, 2009.

 

Kingsleys Korner: FALL SHOWING. Edith McPherson,a water colour artist residing in Brighton is noted for her delicate touch in capturing floras. The exhibit at Kingsleys Korner to October 31st features distinct and admired pieces of her art. Ms McPherson is very popular with the urban art enthusiasts and Brighton Arts Council is pleased to have her as a member. Most of the art is available for sale during the show. For those who like to follow Ron Bolt's painting career, he will have two events in Toronto this October. - Toronto International Art Fair, Oct. 22-27 at the downtown location of the Metro Convention Centre. Susan MacDonald, textile artist. Her work is on display and for sale at the AGN gift shop at the Upstairs Gallery, Port Hope. .  

 

Susan Caron. through the month of October she  will be showing Water colours at the Buttermilk Cafe as well as continuing my showings and sales at Munro's After Five down town Cobourg. I have recently swapped out the art that is showing in Rick Norlock's office.

 

The Cobourg Art Club has a display of paintings upstairs at The Mill Restaurant, Cobourg --an eclectic mix of original work in all media and all members participate. The show is ongoing and changes seasonally.

Bacchus Beckons, On Friday, October 30, the Victoria Hall Volunteers will present their seventh biennial Wine Tasting Event.  Bacchus Beckons is a timely opportunity to discover new wines for your own holiday entertaining.  From 8:00 - 10:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall, guests will sample not only fine wines selected by local sommelier Bruce Maclean, but also an assortment of wonderful cheeses of the world. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Shelagh Purcell playing the grand piano.  There will also be a silent auction.  Tickets are $35.00 and are available from Victoria Hall Volunteer members or the Concert Hall box office at 905-372-2210.
