First Stages Theatre Announces New Season. After much negotiating and waiting, Artistic Director, Robert Latimer-Cornell is now able to officially announce the 2009-2010 Season for First Stages Theatre Company.
“I am most pleased to have secured the rights to the Canadian premiere of Thomas Mann's DEATH IN VENICE. It took months of communications with the British literary agents of the late Robert David MacDonald who adapted his solo-play version from the book. However, just as I held out until I got the Canadian premiere rights to THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING, I was not going to give up on this one either!”
The website has also been updated and contains further information about next season, particularly about ticket prices. Subscriptions and regular tickets are now on sale at The Capitol Theatre.

Whether the economy is good or bad, young artists have always been adept at finding creative ways of supporting themselves and their artmaking. For some, this means leaving the city for a more affordable rural or small town existence.

The Wally Keeler Blog - Poetry Reading At The Meet  It was my second occasion to enjoy an evening of poetry at The Meet, 66 King Street West in downtown Cobourg last Thursday. I recall growing up in Cobourg in the 50s and 60s and poetry was mostly a lonely occupation. Poetry was an indulgence of students, a means of wooing one’s love, or protesting society at large. The beatniks and Bob Dylan provided the ‘cool’ to write poetry
