Council
Calling all arts groups
INNRESPONSE is an Ontario not-for-profit corporation (#647441) with
charitable status through Charities Canada (#888661261RR0001) facilitating
instructional and experiential programs focusing on the under-represented
groups of visual and performing artists in rural communities. We are
particularly motivated to encourage youth so that they will be the continuing
generation of inspired and motivated community participants. In the spirit of
giving back to a community through creative endeavour,
we support activities that integrate professionals with amateurs, families,
all age groups and skill levels. INNRESPONSE is a cultural organization of
volunteers with a wide experience in the Arts, Education, Business and Capacity Building who wish to share this through
partnerships with innovative groups and individuals.

$2.6M Deficit, Stratford Fest Asks For Govt. Help
"Facing dwindling ticket sales from U.S.
theatre goers and its first deficit since the early 1990s, the Stratford
Shakespeare Festival is appealing to government for financial support to help
it through the recession. The Stratford,
Ont., festival revealed in a press release sent out on Saturday that it had
suffered a $2.6-million deficit in 2008 despite a program featuring
Christopher Plummer in a critically acclaimed production of George Bernard
Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra."

The Irish Descendants – Friday, 8:00 pm at the Capitol. The band's award winning recordings range
from lilting ballads to toe-tapping reels, and their high-energy, humorous
live performances have made them a popular attraction at home and abroad. To
date, the band has sold half a million albums.
A.K. Collings Gallery, Port Hope,
presents "Untended Spaces": an exhibition of photographs by Ted Amsden. The artist will be present for the reception
from 2:00 to 4:00 on Saturday. Amsden's images of
abandoned industrial spaces have been described as "beautiful",
"poignant" and "redemptive". Certainly, the timeliness of
this body of work is undeniable. MORE
An Illustrative Life - Jirina
Marton,
opening reception Saturday, 2:00 to 4:00 pm. at the Colborne Art
Gallery New works by the other gallery artists will be
featured in the 2nd and 3rd galleries. Marton was
born in Prague, where she studied
art before having to escape communist Czechoslovakia,
ending up in Paris France. It was there that a friend inspired her to
start making illustrations for children's books. Marton has
illustrated picture books internationally, and her paintings are exhibited in
Italy, Japan,
France, Spain
and Canada
from March 14 until April 26.

Amateur or professional artists and photographers

will once again display their work during Spirit of the Hill's ninth annual Juried Art and Photography Show on Saturday,
March 14th and Sunday, March 15th. The show and sale will be held
within the Percy Heritage Centre, 35
Church Street, Warkworth.
This year's adjudication will be conducted by Ricardo Gomez. A working
sculptor who taught for thirty years at the Alberta College of Art, Calgary

opera, is a lecturer, opera tour guide, and a familiar voice on CBC opera

In spring 2009 Iain will make his fifth appearance
as concert host, bringing with him his unique and entertaining perspective on
opera. He will also bring three young singers who Iain considers will be
Stars of Tomorrow. They are final year students at the Faculty of Music,

Films at the Capitol, Thursday 8:00 pm – Welcome To The Sticks. Although living a
comfortable life in Salon-de-Provence, a charming
town in the South of France, Julie has been feeling depressed for a while. To
please her, Philippe Abrams, a post office administrator, her husband, tries
to obtain a transfer to a seaside town, on the French Riviera, at any cost.
The trouble is that he is caught red-handed while trying to scam an
inspector. Philippe is immediately banished to the distant unheard of town of
Bergues,
in the Far North of France. Leaving his child and wife behind, the crucified
man leaves for his frightening destination, a dreadfully cold place inhabited
by hard-drinking, unemployed rednecks, speaking an incomprehensible dialect
called Ch'ti. Philippe soon realizes that all these
ideas were nothing but prejudices and that Bergues
is not synonymous with hell.

Over the River and Through the Woods April 17th
– May 2nd at the Brighton Barn Theatre.
The play is by Joe diPietro, the author of the
hilarious "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change". This play is a
comedy about family relationships, specifically, intergenerational ones.
Camelot - For one brief
shining moment, Victoria Concert Hall, Cobourg will become the fabled court of
Camelot with King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, Guenevere,
Merlin, Mordred and even the witch Morgan LeFay. Presented by the VOS, Camelot is a Lerner and Loewe musical based on the King Arthur legend as adapted
from the T. H. White novel The Once and Future King. The original 1960
Broadway production ran for 873 performances and won four Tony Awards."Don't let it be forgot that once there was a
spot, for one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot".

Oriana Singers - Bach to Bernstein - March 28, 2009 at 7:30 pm. St. Peter's Church, Cobourg. Leonard
Bernstein's Chichester Psalms is a challenging
choral work, commissioned for the 1965 Southern Cathedrals' Festival at Chichester Cathedral. It has been described as one of
Bernstein's most exhilarating scores. In addition to several other works from
Bernstein including excerpts from West Side Story, the Oriana
Singers will also perform favourites from J.S.
Bach. Musical numbers will be set around an interesting discussion Messieurs
Bernstein and Bach will be having with each other between numbers. Tickets

New! Open Life Drawing Studio
Tuesday nights March

the Art Gallery of Northumberland hosts drop-in life drawing sessions for
artists at the Upstairs Gallery, 34 Walton Street,
Port Hope. A variety of poses from 2 minute gestures to a final one hour
pose. No instruction. $15.00.
Tuesday morning Life Drawing classes at the Upstairs Gallery. Learn the
principles of good drawing through time-honoured
methods of working with the model. Concepts of gesture, contour, tone, and
composition will be introduced and work by masters of the genre will be
discussed. Fun, accessible, challenging, and process oriented, this workshop
is suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists who want to hone
