ACN Member
Artists Of The Week Opening on Saturday at Kreps Hawkins is presenting a mix
of new and old work, with some pieces that have been reworked. She likes to use cast-off materials and
bring them together in non-traditional ways. "I like to tell a story about our
affinities with materials and how they affect us and our environment . . .
how they serve us, building us up and destroying us at the same time . . .
Things are not what they appear on the surface." Derry
will be showing 10 pieces, three of them recently completed. They are
figurative-based. Once she starts
working with materials, she says "they speak to me." She considers
inner issues as she works. She uses "fabric as an expressive medium." Across the street Ganaraska
Art and Framing, an ACN member gallery, is opening the showing of paintings
by Carmel Bouzanne. |

From The Arts
Council Northumberland Conference of the Arts - May 8th
-9th, at Northumberland Heights, organized by
Community Futures Development Corp. in co-operation with the ACN. “The Business of Art” will provide artists, both
visual and performing, practical business and promotional tools to help build
a thriving business., the seminars will provide a
whole approach broken down into key areas of focus in a relaxed, comfortable
setting. The Conference Brochure in PDF format can be downloaded here:. http://www.northumberlandarts.ca/welcome.htm Exposure! Exposure! Exposure! Want Lots of Visitors on your Webpage? 1,200 to 1,400 different people visit the ACN
website each month. The Workshops page was viewed 171 times
in January of this year, and was viewed 310 times last March. Perhaps this
indicates a seasonal peak of interest in attending arts and craft courses. Individual members’ web pages average 50-60
viewings per month. For members without websites, this means that 50-60
people are able to view your work each month. For members with websites, your
page not only provides a view of your work, but also presents an opportunity
for 50-60 people to “click through” to your website to view more
of your work. Members who have had web pages since we first
offered them in January 2007 have had between 1,000 and 1,700 viewings by
people visiting the ACN website. Confused about anything you just read? Our webmaster Duane Schermerhorn will answer your questions. Drop
him a line at draydesign@draydesign.com.
