Northumberland Conference of the Arts - May 8th -9th, at Northumberland Heights, organized by Community Futures Development Corp. in co-operation with the ACN.

“The Business of Art” will provide artists, both visual and performing, practical business and promotional tools to help build a thriving business. Whether you're a single artist selling from your studio or home, a gallery serving multiple artists or a performer managing your own career, business and promotional skills are critical for success. These crucial skills for promoting yourself in the arts will be outlined in concise comprehensive sessions. During each session, successful artists and business professionals alike will come together to present best practices and provide practical advice for promoting your business and increasing sales. In addition, a special session in the afternoon will provide important information on business development funds and support available through the Business Advisory Centre and the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation. Together, the seminars will provide a whole approach broken down into key areas of focus in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

The Conference Brochure in PDF format can be downloaded here:. http://www.northumberlandarts.ca/welcome.htm

Exposure! Exposure! Exposure! The ACN website (www.northumberlandarts.ca) is one of the primary means through which we promote and publicize the work of our members in the arts.

Even if you have your own website, you will benefit from having a web page on the ACN website. If you don’t yet have a web presence, a web page is an excellent way to start increasing your online profile and promoting your work.

You will get outstanding results with search engines

The ACN website is source of information about the arts and artists that is trusted and respected by all major search engines.

A Google search on the name “Krysia Bayer” returns her ACN web page as the #1 result. Likewise for members Anne Plaxton, and Ron Waddling. Naturally, the more unique the artist’s name the higher the result will be. For example, a search on Loty Hlapcic returns Loty’s ACN web page as the #1 result. Whereas a search on “Mary Talbot” returns her web page as #7 in the results, behind references to six other women name Mary Talbot.

A Google search on the terms “art course Cobourg” will return the ACN Arts Courses/Workshop page as the #1 result. You get the same result for “art course Port Hope”. Odds are good that your course or workshop will be found by interested people using search engines if you have it posted on the website.
