Arts Headlines
From our arts reviewer, Selena Forsyth: It
doesn’t take much to be a fan of First Stages Theatre Company. The
first play-reading I went to seven years ago I fell in love with the genre
and have missed only two since. It’s a glorious way to spend Sunday
afternoon: first rate actors reading first rate plays in the first rate
Capitol Theatre. Sunday will be a major treat; not only will First Stages
Artistic director and all round theatre magician Robert Latimer be one of the actors but we get four plays
for the price of one. Called “Talking
Heads” by Alan Bennett
(“The History Boys”,
“The Madness of King George” and “Beyond the Fringe”)
it was originally written for BBC Television. Critically acclaimed, it is a
collection of monologues that reflect Bennett’s compassionate and
acutely observant view of the British way of life. He has adapted these
passionate and funny snapshots of lonely lives for the stage, making for
hilarious and touching theatre.
Starring Alex Dallas, Maria Heidler, Robert Latimer and Andrea Risk and Directed by Maria Heidler
and Robert Latimer, First Stages
will present “Bed Among the
Lentils”, “Her Big Chance”, “A Chip in the
Sugar” and “Miss Fozzard Finds her Feet”.
