Artist's Statement
Self-expression through painting is an integral part of who I am. It is fluid and subject to unexpected change. The process itself can be fulfilling, frustrating, humbling, and exciting, sometimes all at the same time.
At its essence, my work is an attempt to capture a feeling, a mood, a point of view that will evoke emotion or thought in those who view it.
Bio
Born in a small town in France to military parents, I grew up mainly in Kingston, Ontario. There, I attended Queen’s University, graduating with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. I have been able to combine my interests in communication, language, speech and sign language by specializing in teaching Deaf children. I have taught on an isolated First Nation’s reserve in northern Ontario and at a school for the Deaf in central Ontario. Since 1991, I have worked as an itinerant Teacher for Deaf children at various schools. In 2001, I moved to Cobourg where I live with my two sons.
I work primarily in acrylics and am drawn to rich colours and deep textures. My work encompasses pieces grounded in realism to pieces that are abstract in composition.
My work has been displayed in local businesses and as a member of the Journey Through the Arts gallery in Port Hope and member of the Arts Council of Northumberland.
