Dutch born artist, Carla Miedema, enjoys the challenges of working nature into her paintings, and drawing with pen & ink on bristol board and handmade papers.

The mixed media in Carla’s acrylic paintings on canvas include natural elements found in nature: grasses, red pine bark, pine needles, cedar, seeds, lichen, etc. These elements create a sculptural relief effect. Over the past few years her paintings have become more expressionistic as she experiments with different collage materials on various mediums such as yupo, watercolour papers, and canvas.

The pen & ink drawings on handmade paper depict the delicate beauty of wild foliage. The handmade paper enhances the drawings and creates an illusion of depth.

To help promote art in Mazinaw Country, Carla started the Mazinaw Country Studio Tour and the Bon Echo Art Exhibition & Sale. Carla, an active member in many art groups, has exhibited in numerous solo and group art exhibitions, and her work can be found in many collections.
